San Bernadino County, California.
Road Not Maintained. Not quite sure why. It seems that this portion of Route 66 is not only abandoned by travelers, but also by the municipality itself.

Navy Pier Atrium, Chicago, Illinois.
Though not directly on Route 66, it is worth the visit. Notice the "water cannons".

|
Oatman, Arizona.
This is a MUST stop of any Route 66 tour. Miles of desert in each direction separate this town that time forgot from the new millennium. Yes, that is an actual burro walking around. Only one of scores which walk the streets and wooden plank sidewalks.

McLean, Texas.
66 on 66. One of the original Phillips 66 gas stations, fully restored to its original look. Notice the original gas pump? The price was 19 cents per gallon. Unfortunately, the pump was not operational.

Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, California.
Though not directly on Route 66, it is within walking distance of the Westbound end of the route. Just across the street lies the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica Beach, and Santa Monica Pier.

In-N-Out Burger, Pasadena, California.
Nothing historic about this burger joint, however it is famous in South California. Later this chain became even more famous when it was featured on Rhonda Shear's Up All Night on USA Network. In-N-Out Burger is a California thing, so these Chicago travelers could not resist stopping for a very early lunch (10:30am) and some photos.
