Barstow, California.
Thanks to the most amazing coincidence, the NASCAR Wiston Cup series was going to be racing at the new California Speedway in Fontana, California during our trip. Route 66 runs directly through Fontana, so many of the transporter drivers took a scenic Route 66 trip through California. While in Barstow we ran across the Darrell Waltrip Western Auto trailer and the Steve Grissom Cartoon Network trailer at a nearby truck stop.

Western Oklahoma.
Once the original U.S. Route 66 was decommissioned, the road fell to many fates. In some cases it was abandon, some cases destroyed, and some cases sold to land owners. And, in this case, used as a runway for a military airport. While driving down the historic route, the route turns and goes around the airport. At that "Y" intersection, the original road sits just on the other side of the gates and is a runway. Without the gates, it would look like a 4-way intersection.
