Barstow, California. Thanks to the most amazing coincidence, the NASCAR Wiston Cup series was going to be racing at the new California Speedway in Fontana, California during our trip. Route 66 runs directly through Fontana, so many of the transporter drivers took a scenic Route 66 trip through California. While in Barstow we ran across the Darrell Waltrip Western Auto trailer and the Steve Grissom Cartoon Network trailer at a nearby truck stop.
Hollywood Casino, San Felipe Indian Reservation, New Mexico. In the United States, casinos exist on riverboats, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and some American Indian Reservations.
Winslow, Arizona. Notice the very top of this sign post? W. Route 66. In the town of Winslow, Route 66 is still the official name of their main street.
Holbrook, Arizona. Members of the Hopi Indian Nation perform ritual dances for the visitors and residents of Holbrook. Before each dance a member of the Hopi Nation described the significance of the dance.

When the wearer dances, the outfit makes music.
Arizona/California Border, Arizona. Due to the removal of much of the original Route 66, travelers leave the state of California on Interstate 40. Once in Arizona, they exit I-40 onto some of the very original Route 66 roadways. The highway is just up the embankment.
Western Oklahoma. Once the original U.S. Route 66 was decommissioned, the road fell to many fates. In some cases it was abandon, some cases destroyed, and some cases sold to land owners. And, in this case, used as a runway for a military airport. While driving down the historic route, the route turns and goes around the airport. At that "Y" intersection, the original road sits just on the other side of the gates and is a runway. Without the gates, it would look like a 4-way intersection.
